Mobility to Sicily, Italy

Erasmus+ team from Koprivnica High School went to Sicily, Italy from May the 23rd to May 30th 2017. as part of project mobility. Besides our teachers and us, there were students and teachers from Don Luigi Sturzo school (Bagheria, Italy - our hosts) and  St. Denis school (Annonay, France) that are part of our Erasmus+ project.

Our hosts...

When we first came to Sicily we were warmly welcomed by our correspondents and their families. They accepted us very well.

Especially beautiful part of welcoming was homemade food prepared by our hosts so we were able to try all kinds of Sicilian specialties and we really liked their pizza, arancini, cannoli, pasta, cakes, icecream, etc.

Sustainable development in Sicily...

During the mobility week, we visited a lot of local places and learnt about sustainable development activities in Sicily.

First we went on a sight-seeing tour on the mountain Catalfano. After a hiking, we enjoyed the amazing view on the Tyrrhenian Sea and Mediterranean plants. Also, we have visited Institute Crea where we listened lectures about Sicilian endemic types of plants and we learnt a lot of about preservations and importance of maintaining the botanical biodiversity. On the third day, our hosts took us on a journey to the Mountain Castelbuono where there are no cars, so donkeys carry garbage instead. We also tried local food, like fruit ice cream made of ice and cake from organic ingredients. After that we visited a beautiful Ventimiglia Castle. We went down to the coast to visit Cefalu - one of the biggest touristic places on Sicily. And some of us even took the swimm. We tried the adventure rides by boats where we had a chance to see panoramic view of Palermo from the sea. For a few of us it was a bit hard, because of see sickness, but others enjoyed it a lot. Visit to Botanical garden in Palermo was very cool with a lot of diferent typs of plants, and there we had a chance to see the biggest ficus ever.

Activities in school....

In "Don Luigi Sturzo" school in Bagheria we had a variety of workshops and lectures organised by our hosts. For example, workshop about recycling paper as well as watching a presentation about the water turbine and workshops with experiments. Also, we wrote trip diaries, articles for newspapers, etc.

Conclusion...

In the end we made a lot of new friends and we are very glad that we have visited Sicily and got to know typical Sicilian lifestyle and culture and their contribution in sustainable development.
